PLUNGER ILLUSION BILL SMITH MAGIC VENTURES Volunteer steps into the cabinet. The roller shade is pulled up from the bottom and hooked to the "plunger". The plunger is cranked downward, the audience can now see above the plunger that the box is empty. When the plunger reaches the end of it's travel, the bottom hinges open and a flattened person is pulled out. Bruce Chadwick An upright rectangular cabinet with an open front is displayed to the audience. Rope lights frame a mirrored border that encircles the front of the illusion. The brightly-lit interior of the cabinet enables the audience to clearly see its emptiness. The illusion can be turned around 360° on its free rolling castors to show that there is nothing behind it. A front curtain on the prop is closed (not shown in the photo for clarity). When the curtain is whipped open, a person instantly appears! This prop is our version of the famous Modern cabinet. It can be used to both produce and vanish individuals, and is a great way to do the "Things Go Bump in the Night" type illusion that was popularized by the late Doug Henning.
